Ode to Virginia Beach

Your jagged edge of motels sanded and worn
The backdrop for pages not written nor torn

A concrete boardwalk too hard on my feet
The birth of a lemon drop, friends’ favorite treat

Loud crowds at Mahi Mahs and oysters half price
Catch 31 offers trendy summer for a slice

Biking to bars and fun concerts on sand
Jefferson Starship was my favorite band

Death to the carnie and forgotten men
Ode to the old so the new can come in

The birthing of my artist bloody and new
Came forth crying for her dreams to come true

Your ocean will call me even when I move on
Cause the best songs are sweeter penned when home grown

Raleigh is now my New York, my haven, my own.
In three solid years I’ll write you a new song.
